Andra Day in Billboard Magazine: Los Ojos Looking Good

Andra Day is Fest Dressed

Festival season is going strong, and we were excited to be part of a feature on “The Fest Dressed List,” featuring strong new artists hitting the festivals this year.

AndraDay

Andra Day looks fantastic on our Los Ojos blanket and we love her retro vibe. According to Rolling Stone, Andra:

Sounds Like: One in the morning at your favorite cabaret bar

For Fans of: Emeli Sandé, Melanie Fiona, Seinabo Sey

Why You Should Pay Attention: Don’t be fooled by the images of Andra Day in doo-rags and vintage furs like a post-millennial Billie Holiday. Far from a retro artist, her music spans from “Forever Mine,” which is inspired by the Flamingos’ doo-wop classic “I Only Have Eyes For You,” to the soaring empowerment anthem “Rise Up,” which she performed last month on the BET Awards. “I’m not going to put myself in a box,” she says. “Whichever chord progressions move me, whether it’s rock, jazz, doo-wop or soul, I’m going to put it together and not be worried about whether people can put it in a lane or not.”

Here’s the blanket!

Oh My: Backstage at Allegiance with George Takei

Meeting a Hero

One of our district managers had a letter from one of our employees as follows:

Janese and I were talking one day about this new Broadway show called Allegiance and how we both planned to go. She informed me her cousin works for George Takei, the inspiration and star of the show. She planned to gift him a Pendleton blanket, since sharing his story was courageous. I thought this was a wonderful gesture! We ended up going yesterday, and when we met Mr. Takei, he said to me “You work for Pendleton? I wear their shirts and love them!” He thanked Janese for the beautiful blanket, and said he would take it to his house in Arizona. He is a gracious, talented star, and a Pendleton fan!

We are great fans of Mr. Takei around here, from his days on Star Trek as Mr. Sulu, to his current incarnation as King of Facebook and Broadway star. So enjoy some starry-eyed fan moments, thanks to Kris!

Fans, friend, what's the difference? george Takei with all of the above.

Where the Mountains Meet the Sea: UGG and Pendleton Collaborate in 2015

UGG and Pendleton collaboration

Wool, meet wool.

If there were ever a natural partnership, it’s this one. Our 2014 collaboration with UGG Australia was an immediate hit and a nearly immediate sell-through, so we’re excited to bring you another collaboration for this holiday season.

We talked about the shared heritage of UGG and Pendleton in a post last year. Both companies have roots in Southern California’s surf culture, a point nicely illustrated by this display at the UGG Australia HQ.

Our new pattern, exclusive to this collection, reflects this shared history. Inspired by the place where the mountains meet the sea, this banded design has mountain peaks and rolling waves in natural hues. Here it is on the loom at our USA mill.

We love the combination of two traditional American firms, Airstream and Pendleton, making a backdrop for two young American style icons. The BoHo vibe is adorable, and their friendship is palpable.

New Video for the “Wild” soundtrack: First Aid Kit and Pendleton

Wild for “WILD”

“Wild” is not just the number one movie right now, it’s the number one bestselling book on Amazon–years after its release! The soundtrack is a key part of creating and maintaining the high-altitude atmosphere of this amazing true-life story by Cheryl Strayed.

The movie was filmed on location, so Oregon’s part of the Pacific Crest Trail is one of the stars, right up there with Ms. Witherspoon. There are some amazing shots near Crater Lake, all the more amazing because Crater Lake National Park is only open a short time each year.

Walk Unafraid and Wild

“Walk Unafraid” (originally by REM) is part of the “Wild” soundtrack.  Our Levi’s California collaboration jacket is featured in this video of the cover by First Aid Kit.

So this video is a confluence of a lot of cool things: Pendleton, Levi’s, REM, First Aid Kit, the mighty Cheryl Strayed, the movie “Wild,” the book “Wild”, and of course Reese Witherspoon.

We are excited!

In Other Style News: Blake Lively in Lindsey Thornburg x Pendleton Cape

Yes, that’s the beautiful Blake Lively in a Lindsey Thornburg cloak!

Our Tamiami Trail blanket makes a beautiful outerwear piece.

Blake Lively, fashion icon, offered this cloak on her Preserve.us website, but it appears to be sold out. Check Lindsey’s website! And be sure to read about Lindsey Thornburg’s inspirations on our blog. Her beautiful cloaks are dramatic innovations on the tradition of blanket coats that stretches back to medieval times in Europe. And centuries ago in the Americas, Native weavers made outerwear of their blankets, and adapted the styles to manufactured Trade blankets when they were introduced in the late 1800s. We have to tell you this stuff because we’re Pendleton, and we go back a ways with blankets.

But enough history lessons.

For now, just enjoy those photos of a beautiful woman in a beautiful cloak.

O’NEILL & PENDLETON: A COLLABORATION OF SHEER CRAFTSMANSHIP

15 September, 2014 –

Logo for the collaboration
Laydown shot of O'Neill x Pendleton collaboration line

O’Neill, the original Northern California surf and lifestyle brand, is proud to unveil a new collaboration with Pendleton Woolen Mills – the family-owned textile manufacturing company, based in Portland, Oregon, that traces its roots back 151 years.

Revealed as part of the O’Neill Fall 2014 collection, the collaboration between the two iconic North American companies represents a celebration and showcase of the ultimate in refined craftsmanship – a standard that both O’Neill and Pendleton have set out to achieve from the start, inspired by their respective founders.

Local in its ethos but known the world over for the exquisite quality of its wool, Pendleton Woolen Mills has injected its unmistakable plaid aesthetic – popularized by 1960’s surfers in California – across a line that includes a jacket, shirt, sweat, tee and accessories. O’Neill’s long-standing reputation for innovation and youthful style, meanwhile, provides the collection with a unique contemporary twist.

The O’Neill x Penwool jacket typifies the collaboration, combining superior quality Pendleton wool with O’Neill’s stain-resistant, water repelling and quick-drying Hyperdry technology. With balmy summer temperatures now a distant memory, the new collaboration serves up warmth and dryness through the colder months – whether it’s down on the coast, in the city or up in the mountains.

The O’Neill x Pendleton collaboration will be launched on 23 September – that rare occasion when day and night are of equal duration – and will be available to buy online at oneill.com, as well as in selected flagship O’Neill stores and premium retail stores.

ABOUT O’NEILL

Over 60 years ago, Jack O’Neill invented the wetsuit from a San Francisco highway garage, and gave birth to an entire industry in the process. Today, the same unreasonable spirit still drives everything that we at O’Neill do.  Whether it be on the slopes or in the surf, O’Neill stands behind our commitment to creating and crafting product that allows you to do what you love for longer.

We have this collection at our Home Store (503.535.5444) in Portland’s Pearl District:
